After
a brief 50 tape run on Clandestine Tapes comes the CD version on No Lite. A
sprawlingly good collection of crashing doom, tape mangling, soundscape's and
incidentals, make for a strange tale. Our
intoxicated hero's bravely charge around the temple of odd so you can be sure
that when they're in they're IN. When they're out THEY STAY OUT.
What
Aquarius Records have to say:
"...a
dizzying assault of midtempo noiserock pound, drugged
out abstract ambience, downtuned throbbing sludge, twisted crusty dooooom,
and heavy heavy drones, but it's not just the sounds, it's what these guys do
with them. The riffs don't just buzz, they drip and ooze and creep, the vocals
are inhuman and alien, totally disturbing, the guitars chug and churn and
rumble, the songs veer from total ultra dooooom to twisted post rock lumber, to
abstract hypnorock stutter, to weird epic almost chamber sounding sludge, taking
something filthy and foul and making it majestic. Not sure why these guys are
not HUGE, but anyone into Harvey Milk, and other practitioners of slow low crush
and dense doomic dronemusic, should definitely be freaking out over these guys,
and this record"

I
don't have much info on Men of Unitus. The last anyone heard of them was at a
rare show where, within the first minute the band were collapsing from their own
drunken mindheat and managing to click
whilst the front dude had run down the street screaming and barking like
absolute cunt. Hope they're back soon. Lovely record. Some real fried horrible.
"This is a depraved and hysterical piece of work from a band who have set their guitar pedals to 'Kill'... a battering-ram like intensity...Men Of Unitus prove they can step up to the overblown ideals they put across on their bizarre cover art and indeed the title. At times so entrenched is the wall-of-noise production that you wonder if there is any room in there for anything else."
Rock
a Rolla Magazine
"...this is scathing violent left field metallic noise rock steaming right at you just like you want and indeed need it to. Slash, hack, slash, bang and the caving in of every fragile head they could find. Relentless, “a tinnitisual glory” they said. And they are right, only a few will know how to handle it – glorious, there to make you happy and you know it, go grab some, they dropped a scathingly good one..."

"Dark Songs Of The Prairie, the first full-length album from Denver's ACROSS TUNDRAS, holds eight portraits of heavy majesty carved out of massive syrup riffage and spacious melodies. Every time I listen to this album, it makes me think of hearing some mysterious 70's country rock outfit thawed out and refitted with mighty amplification, sludgecore tempos, and shoegazey shimmer that conjures up visions of the wide open prairies and looming mountains of the band's home territory. As weighty as the melodic heaviness coming from the from the whole "post-metal" camp, i.e. Pelican, Mouth Of The Architect, Isis, etc., but coming from a different place altogether with their dreamlike vocals and forays into blasted country/folk, ACROSS TUNDRAS draw a tangential line from Neil Young to HUM to NEUROSIS, and unleash a powerful new statement of rustic, crushing Americana. Features former members of Sioux Falls, SD post-hardcore outfits SPIRIT OF VERSAILLES and EXAMINATION OF THE..."

AUDIONOM was formed in Stockholm
in the end of the 90's when two bands collided; Johan Hinders and Henrik
Hannebo's experimental outfit APPARAT and Koffe Berger's punk band PVC. The
crash merged into AUDIONOM - a project turning their radical political ideas
into the sound of an anarchistic bulldozer of hypnotic avant punk rock.
Repetition - meditation by a wall of noise - repetition. A Einstürzende
Neubauten vs Hawkwind was born. Industrial music vs kraut-rock rising from the
ashes. Anarchism becoming sound - dark, with guitars and synthesizers in huge
intense chunks thrown your face. Accompanied with few repeated words/lyrics.
Used as integrated musical elements of the music. Equal to the other instruments
and to the films of member Martin Malm (of which some is included on this
enhanced CD+ format).
Their extremely complicated life as a band - members with psychic problems,
fighting, drinking, chaotic live shows and depression has caused them splitting
up and reforming, probably a few times too many already.
AUDIONOM is not a fixed band, but rather a loose circa nine-headed beast of a
collective. The number nine is significant but they have'nt revealed why.
Anarchospiritualistic reasons remain a mystery under the powerful Audionom-banner.

Crafted in their fine tradition, Aufgehoben continue to carve harsh chunks of noise with this, their first departure on 7" vinyl. Guitar and electronics sound like neither, while sprawling percussion tumbles across the rotten landscape. The two tracks on this monochromatic record jump right for the jugular, leaving little time for subtlety or reflection. Not recommended for antique styluses. There are 524 copies of this picture disc record.

Release Info:
The idea for a collaboration between Canada’s prolific neo-doom duo Nadja and New Zealand’s pitch black droners Black Boned Angel was first hatched in conversations between 20 Buck Spin and Nadja’s Aidan Baker around the time Nadja released their Truth Becomes Death EP on Alien8 Recordings in 2006. 20 Buck Spin ran the idea by Campbell Kneale of Black Boned Angel, who at that point was unfamiliar with Nadja. After hearing their material, the complimentary potential was realized, and the groups began their cross-continental collaboration sending music back and forth digitally.
Time passed and both groups, along with Campbell’s altar-ego Birchville Cat Motel, were extremely busy releasing their own material. By the end of 2007 the collaborative effort had realized three fully formed tracks. One more accessible track that included vocals called “Christ Send Light” was released in 2008 as a CD EP on Kneale’s own Battlecruiser imprint. The other two long tracks were combined for a full length release for 20 Buck Spin. With the album being a collaborative effort 20 Buck Spin also convinced two close comrades, David D’Andrea and Stephen Kasner, to collaborate on some artwork. Again, artistic collaborations take a great deal of time, and finally in 2009 both art and music have finally come together for this much anticipated release.
The two 20+ minutes tracks contained on this self-titled collaboration have a less accessible vibe then the Jesu-like track on last year’s “Christ Send Light” EP. There are no vocals to be heard. They are comprised in equal parts of Nadja’s fuzzed-out, lurching and hazy dream-doom, and BBA’s razor-sharp metallic riff-shards. Extended passages of riff-static noise bleeds one track into the next while deep space eerieness looms ever present in the shadows. Finally the whole thing collapses under the weight of its own self-created black hole. This is the end.

Release Info:
Campbell Kneale, of prolific one-man bliss drone project Birchville Cat Motel, returns to his metallic alter-ego Black Boned Angel. Both projects chase a similar idea from different ends of the spectrum. The Endless Coming Into Life is Kneale’s third full-length release as Black Boned Angel (in addition to a slew of CDR EPs), all released by 20 Buck Spin. This work is perhaps Kneale’s most obvious combination of the extreme minimalism of his ambient tendencies and the extreme maximalism of his forays into the center of the subterranean metal guitar riff. The album first lulls one into a meditative state of relative calm before plummeting into the chasm created by the vibrations of a single, snarling riff so heavy it could rip a hole in the heavens. Consisting of a sole one-hour track, The Endless Coming Into Life sits comfortably alongside the darker end of Kneale’s ever-growing catalog of work dedicated to finding the light (or dark) source of the universal drone.

Release Info:
The Feast is the first full length album from BOOK OF BLACK EARTH. Punishing blackened death metal (or deathened black metal if you prefer) is the order of the day. Subtle and unintrusive keyboard strains throughout give an epic and vast quality to the memorably brutal songs on display. Vocalist TJ Cowgill's menacing gutteral delivery coupled with the assault of Joe Axler's (SKARP) double-bass drum march propel the songs to sit comfortably alongside far more experienced and noteworthy bands in the genre. And unlike most death metal, The Feast is precise and over soon enough to leave you wanting much more

Rakennus is an authentic Circle experience, a live album in it's most pure form. The album was recorded on Circle's recent tour of the United States, in Charlottesville, VA.

Release Info:
A new release from Circle, once again. This time these experimental veterans study the both ends of the previously unheard static / hyper-active scale. Soundwise they have clearly proceeded to the 21st century, jumping from limpid synthesizer soundscapes to wall-smashing "speed-kraut" bursts. The triptych construction of the album along with the cover art that portrays war and street riots raise various associations on the history and the current state of Western civilization

Release Info :
A 3" CD packaged in a standard jewel-case, "The Mountain EP" finds DESTRUCTO SWARMBOTS exploring a more delicate and subtle space than previous releases. The 2 man guitar and bass team, known for it's abrasive sonic attacks, take their layers of manipulated dissonance and situate them in subtle ambient landscapes. The tracks range from "36 beautiful songs" which plays like an condensed and intensified version of Fripp and Eno's "An Index of Metals." to the somber "saving grace on an 8 hour connection" which finds the group delving into more traditional melodic structures.

"GRAVES AT SEA from Arizona have made a lot of noise in the underground the past few years. Already considered one of the best Doom bands in existence the band has yet to issue their debut LP (coming later this year on a much bigger label)! Documents Of Grief was self-released by the band back in 2003 and quickly sold out and hasn’t been seen since."

Release Info :
A great release. Wildly rhythmic, the album consists of three brilliant tracks, by turns soothing and unsettling. 'Ushikawa Kurama Iri' builds cinematically around a 25 minute loop of tribal, ritualistic drumming. Track two, 'Hachiman Taro No Uta' features the distinctive acoustic guitar stylings of Mr. Akita, while the album closer 'Yoshino No Yamazakura' is constructed almost entirely of granular synthesis. 'Yoshinotsune' is quite possibly the most unique offering of laptop-era Merzbow; distinctive, but certain not to disappoint.

Release Info :
Basses Frequences is damn proud to finally give the vinyl treatment to what is certainly Nadja's finest full-length recording. "Corrasion" has been re-mastered for the vinyl release and includes an exclusive, extended version of the title track as well as the outstanding "numb" to expand on the 2007 CD release. Strictly limited to 400 copies on 180 gram black vinyl

"70+ minute recording of 8 wandering improvistions for guitar and drums
tracked over the course of two days. Content ranges from ambient soundscapes to
upbeat almost electric jazz. Probably differs a bit from others releases of this
nature as both players have backgrounds in the fine art of heavy music. Comes in
either a blue or red cover version. One time pressing of 1000 copies!"

Release Info :

Hailing from Göteborg, Sweden, The Skull Defekts is a new music collective featuring core members Joachim Nordwall (Alvars Orkester, ex-Kid Commando, runner of Ideal Recordings), Henrik Rylander (ex-Union Carbide Productions) and people like Jean-Louis Huhta (ex-Anti Cimex, Cortex...) and Daniel Fagerström (Chronic Heist, ex-Trapdoor Fucking Exit, 8 Days Of Nothing). The band has been doing live collaborations with Damo Suzuki (Can) and Lasse Marhaug, just to name a few. On Skkull the band is stripped down to the trio of Nordwall/Rylander/Huhta and what we get is an all electronic album containing 4 long songs. Compared to their earlier releases this one takes a more minimalistic and monotonous approach but still manages to be heavy as hell! Expect total Scandinavian coldness. Digipack with artwork by Are Mokkelbost. Limited to 500 copies.

Release Info:
On their debut full length Alpha Males & Popular Girls, SOIHADTOSHOOTHIM complete their metamorphosis from purveyors of mid-90's art-damaged powerviolence to modern blastpop visionaries. Sugarcoated and venomous, these ten songs marry monstrous metallic riffing and surreal, swirling pop seizures to cyclones of gasoline-soaked noise skronk and arena-sized rock blowouts that are fronted with utter sass and ferocity, courtesy of frontwoman Libby Schaub. Alpha Males is a boldly imaginative debut, chock full of infectious hooks and crazed heaviness that references BLONDIE and indie pop, blasting powerviolence and grindcore, pulverizing crazed metalcore, neon-hued dance punk, gleaming melodic bliss, and mutant stadium-rock anthems all in the same breath

Release Info:
Refreshing like a cool breeze on a burning post nuclear holocaust desert, Atomic Mountain never fails to strengthen the world-weary warrior spirit. Intensive desert rock grooves riding on loud metal war machines, sinister harmonies laid upon beastly delay drone growls, the most primal motorik boogie rocking confronted by exstatic pagan percussion rustle

This is the first vinyl release for The GTC, a horrible mess of strangulated trumpet, violent tempos and destroyed guitar. A modern mix of Honeywell and Constatine Sankathi, but without the goofy ex-girlfriend imagery, metallic influence or derivative haircuts. These four songs capture the frustration and disarray of too many modems and not enough human emotion in modern middle-class America. There are 626 copies on clear red vinyl, all with unusual center stickers and a handmade touch.

The 2nd album from Oakland California's THE MASS further refines the band's unique brand of malevolent indie-thrash, oozing a crawling heaviness not apparent on earlier releases. Crushing, epic, and melodic...moving beyond the hyperkinetic seizures of City Of Dis, here THE MASS whip out blazing, staccato riffs and multifaceted vocal attacks that knife through complex structures and sludgy, epic elegies, as wicked saxophone melodies interweave with angular crunch and creepy nocturnal post-rock. Like a stuttering, bat-winged Bay Area thrash metal outfit arming itself with Louisville/Chicago schooled math-thug asymmetry, pounding dirge-core, and fierce, evocative jazz flourishes while lobbing some whopping bonged-out grooves, THE MASS continues to evolve its cryptic heaviosity.

Release Info:
¿Mysterioso? , the second full length from Oakland, CA-based trio TOTIMOSHI, intersects earthquake-heavy rock and wicked sludge riffage with the wiry hooks and dynamics of 80's post-punk / new wave, Spanish melodies, and an adventurous, occasionally improvisational fuzz attack. It's like someone gave an old Beggars Banquet band a cocktail of steroids, huge amps, and battered copies of Melvins' Stoner Witch and Mainliner's Mellow Out. Heavy, crunchy, catchy, hypnotic - ¿Mysterioso? winds, grinds, and explodes every step of the way. This re-issued, re-tooled version features enhanced CD-ROM extras, including video , photos, and more.

"As a follow up to their second release Dread, on Bulb Records, Ann Arbor's cassette culture noise therapists hit back hard with an unofficial LP release on Bad Glue Records. Even though the band won't take credit for the album's pointed title, they later agreed that it was very fitting. The LP was limited to 600 copies and sold out immediately. That was in the summer of 2002. This is a CD re-release of that LP which is part of Wabana's "Re-issue the LP" campaign. Wolf Eyes utilize old school analog electronic equipment to lay the basic tones of their music which is then highlighted and ripped apart by electric guitar, horns, homemade noise contraptions and intense vocals. For those unfamiliar with these guys, comparisons are often drawn to Throbbing Gristle or Whitehouse"

Release Info:
Building on the foundations laid out on 2000’s debut LP “Requiescat”, “Starvation” is a swirling vortex of psychedelic panic, doom crusted metal and sombre minor key prog mania. Imagine “Souls At Zero” era Neurosis with the apocalypse turned inward, or Tarantula Hawk and Crash Worship on a black doom metal bender. Not surprisingly Billy Anderson’s (Neurosis, Swans, Sleep) production signature graces “Starvation”, highlighting the double bass guitar technicality and sample-laden paranoia. WORMWOOD’s “Starvation” is an album that must be digested over the course of multiple listens to fully comprehend everything going on in its vast, insular 70 minute-plus mental web

Release Info :
This was the legendary cult/commune's penultimate album-thunderous native American Indian drums mixed with acid drenched feedback guitar, twisted vocals and a childrens song make for one of the most mind-altering albums ever. Comes with an insert of reflections on the record from the family. "At the end of 1974 The Source sold their restaurant and moved to Hawaii. There they went looking for paradise only to encounter hostile locals, who were reluctant to rent out a pad for Yahowa and his 13 wives, forcing them to temporarily retreat to Northern California. But they eventually reconfigured themselves and returned to Hawaii for a final fractious stand. "To the Principles, for the children" dates from this period and the tension shows. Its two long tracks are broken into untitled fragments, one of them an ode to "woman power" worthy of Helen Reddy. More frequently Yahowa locks into heaven chant mode, surrounded by instrumental rings that recall The Magic Band of "Abba Zabba". Very possibly, this album explains a great deal of the Father's philosophy-that is, if you can make out the words, of which there are many. By way of compensation the ensemble seamlessly blends effects and percussion, and when the kids' chorus of "Yahowa" starts up at the end you'll know you've already been somewhere." Byron Coley A more personalized painfully vulnerable album style of songs. Odd.
